Analysis
In FY 2018, the Police Department added six new Police Officer positions and ten new Chevrolet Patrol Tahoe vehicles to the existing fleet. Based on current radio inventory, five new Motorola APX 6000 portable radios and ten are needed to equip the new Police Officers and new patrol vehicles.
Chapter 271.102 of the Local Government Code authorizes local governments to participate in a cooperative purchasing program with another local government or local cooperative organization. The City of Grand Prairie has master inter-local cooperative agreements with various entities including HGAC. The City of Grand Prairie does not need to competitively bid items purchased through HGAC as they have already been bid by the sponsoring entity.
Motorola Solutions Inc.’s HGAC contract RA05-15 will be used for the purchase of these new radios.
Financial Consideration
Funding in the amount of $62,651.12 is available in the FY 2017/2018 Crime Tax Fund budget (286110).
