Analysis

It is the Fire Department's recommendation, supported by the Public Safety, Health & Environment Committee on October 3, 2016,  to enter into an automatic aid agreement with the City of Mansfield.

With an automatic aid agreement in place personnel, equipment and response times are bolstered in the city's peninsula district. The City of Grand Prairie will still respond to fire emergencies in the peninsula district, however, Mansfield's geographical location allows for a quicker response time as first arrival. In return, the City of Grand Prairie will automatically respond to everything east of 360 where the city's geographical location allows for a quicker response time as first arrival.

The automatic aid allows for either city to respond within a reasonable distance into the other city to assist with fire emergencies. The requested city will respond with available firefighting equipment and personnel in aid of the requesting city.

Each city waives all claims against the other city for compensation for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring. The responding city shall not be reimbursed by the requesting city for costs incurred, each city shall be solely responsible for the payment of its costs associated with providing firefighting equipment and personnel.
