Analysis
Recent heavy rain storms in late 2018 and early 2019 caused severe bank erosion to the West Fork of the Trinity River in Mike Lewis Park putting the trail in jeopardy of falling into the river at the next major rain storm. The Mike Lewis Park trail is a 14’ wide concrete trail that runs parallel to the river and is part of the Regional Veloweb. It was constructed as part of the State Highway 161 Park Mitigation Project. When bank erosion came to the edge of the trail, Parks and Public Works evaluated the trail and determined how much trail had to be relocated safely away from the eroding river bank. We will be removing approximately 700 lf of concrete trail and rebuilding approximately 750 lf of concrete trail well away from the eroding river bank.
We received a quote from Axis Contracting, a Public Works (Streets) Price Agreement contractor in the amount of $130,000 to complete this project.
This item was presented to the Finance and Government Committee on May 7, 2019 for their recommendation to the City Council.
