Analysis
The City Council has approved a $65,000 budget for the Arts Council from the city's FY 2012/2013 Hotel Motel (HTMT) Fund as allowed under state law.  Arts Council events attract more than 20,000 patrons a year and benefit arts and culture in Grand Prairie.  Prior to receiving the HTMT funds, the Arts Council and city must enter into a contract outlining the use and terms of the budget.  This is the same contract we have entered into for the past several years.  Arts Council plans for FY 2012/2013 include:

            Four community theatre productions
      Annual Broadway-Style Summer Musical production
Children's camps including art, dance, music, film and theater
            Month-long outdoor concert series
Adult Juried Art Exhibition and Sale
Various student art shows, in conjunction with the GPISD, throughout the year
Celebration of Black History Month at the Grand Prairie Libraries
Ongoing support for local Arts organizations
An annual Awards Reception - The Shining Star, Ruthe Awards
Scholarship program for local graduating seniors and fine arts students

The city's contribution represents less than a third of the Arts Council's total budget, with the balance of the budget being raised through membership dues, admissions to shows, grants and in-kind services.

Financial Consideration
Funding is available in the FY 2012/2013 Hotel Motel Fund (172010-61735).
