Analysis
This request is being initiated by the City of Grand Prairie after determining that the existing name has created some confusion with the motoring public and causing certain delivery trucks to be routed through adjacent neighborhoods. This has created various problems including power poles and utilities being destroyed and residents left without power. Staff was looking at ways to reduce the amount of truck traffic through the surrounding residential areas.

The Public Safety Committee was unable to meet but was made aware of this possible name change. The City Council Development Committee met on May 12, 2015 was in agreement to consider the effects of the request.

Property owner notifications were mailed on April 30, 2015, notifying recipients of the City Council hearing on May 19, 2015. Staff received one response to the notifications in which the owner of a business located on Gifford Street indicated support for the street name change. Staff has had meetings with various tenants along Gifford in the Grand Lakes Business Park. Additionally on Thursday, May 14th a meeting was held that was a result of mailing notices to property owners within 300’of the proposed street name change. There were four attendees at the meeting.
