Analysis
The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is seeking ratification of the FY2019 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) Grant application; and if awarded, authorize the City Manager to accept funding by signing the Sub-Recipient Agreement and other grant related documents from the Office of the Governor-Homeland Security Grants Division. The grant amount for FY19 is approximately $164,000. These funds will be managed by the OEM and allocated by project to both the Fire Department and the Police Department to provide and/or enhance emergency response equipment and planning.

HazMat Detection Enhancement for the Grand Prairie Fire Department:
This project will provide the City of Grand Prairie an unprecedented ability to locate, identify, and isolate Toxic Industrial Chemicals and Toxic Industrial Materials that produce vapors and gasses, which have been used extensively by terrorist organizations. With the use of Optical Gas Imaging, Hazardous Materials Team Members will have the ability to deploy, with specificity, to an affected area with 100% certainty of the location and distribution of a spectrally visual Weapon of Mass Destruction.
